8 Words a Week: June 21 2026
Today I kick off 8 Words a Week. Use my words as inspiration or start your own micro journaling practice with a list of just 8 words.
One of the things family has always told me over the years is they would read my blog posts, but they just don't have time. I understand that, and I know for a lot of people the long-form content I typically publish just doesn't easily fit into busy schedules of juggling work, kids, + other responsibilities.
Over the years, I've also met a lot of people who similarly don't have a lot of time to start a lengthy journaling practice, or they just aren't really all that into writing. I understand that too!
The good news is I've created the perfect solution for both problems and it's called 8 Words a Week.
How 8 Words a Week Works
Every week on Sundays I will publish a list of 8 words. These words may relate to one another or they may not - they will simply be whatever comes to mind for me that week.
You can then use those 8 words anyway you’d like! You can use the words from my week as creative prompts - or you could just tell me what you’ve been up to in your own list of 8 words.
Some examples of ways to use my words
- Reflect on what they mean in your own journaling,
- Create a story or poem that uses the 8 words
- Make art inspired by the list - collage, doodle, draw, paint.
You don’t even have to use all 8 words - you can just use one word that grabs your attention. Maybe you like 3 of them. No rules here!
You could also use my list and practice as inspiration for starting your own 8 words a week practice. Keep it private in your journal or your note taking app or share your own list of words in the comments or on your own blog for any given Sunday. I'd love to read your 8 words!
Why 8 Words?
It’s like 6 word stories , but it’s a list instead because sentences are sometimes too hard to write. We’re only doing 8 things because 10 things would be overwhelming, 5 is too flat, and 7 is too cliche (that’s the number of days in a week!) Perfect logic, right? Oh, and we have 8 cats! (I say 9, but one is really a labradoodle).
Speaking of cats, Peanut Butter ALWAYS has some words to share, here's a pic I took of her mid-meow - she looks quite ferocious even though she was just telling me about how Taco's been eating all of Ray's porcupine grass he planted.

My 8 Words for June 21, 2026
This week I reflected on how today is Father's Day in choosing my words.
- Jar
- Elephant
- Posterity
- Sunburst
- Water
- Handkerchief
- License
- Relax
My word lists will always be available to the public on Sundays, premium members can get additional insight into why I chose the words I did or some ideas for things to do with the word list.
And of course, I hope this inspires you to start your very own 8 Words a Week Practice! Just jot down 8 words - the first ones off the top of your head. Over time, you will be amazed at how this simple quick journaling practice can help ground you and bring insight into what's going on in your life.
What do you think? Share your words in the comments or tell me what you think of when you read my words - I read EVERY comment!

This week I thought it'd be fun to share my list with Google Gemini and see what they thought of it and compare it to my own thoughts/feelings in making the list.
