Simple Creative Exercises with Color

Now that you know what these colors represent, here are a few fun, low-stakes ways to play with them in your creative practice today:

  • Keep a Mood Tracker: You can track your daily vibe using colored pencils or markers on graph paperโ€”simply coloring in one block per day. If paper isn't your thing, you can easily adapt this to other mediums! Try building a physical mood tracker out of LEGO bricks, or even crocheting a row of a color into a blanket every single day. The possibilities are endless!
  • Make a Color Collage: Pick one specific shade and create a collage layout using only things that match that color. It is a fantastic, highly visual way to play with your supplies. Just be warned: this exercise is incredibly addictive, and you might just end up filling an entire glue book this way!
  • Write about a Color. Choose a color that calls to you today and write a short journal entry, essay, or poem about it. Don't focus on universal rules; instead, write entirely about what that color means to you personally and what specific memories you associate with it. You could even do this writing just 8 words!

I hope this guide will be helpful for you and something you can reference again and again as you make decisions in your art or writing. Have any symbolism to add to any of these? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
